Erica is Born

11/19/2007 Erica Lynn McKenna was born at Mercy Hospital in Okc, Oklahoma with a condition called semi lobar holoprosencephaly also known as HPE. With this condition came seisure complications a cleft lip and diabetes insipidus. Erica fed from a bottle for about a week before she was transferred to OU Childrens Medical Center where she had a mic key button also known as a feeding tube to help her due to her seisure meds keeping her sedated and the doctors were afraid she would aspirate. Erica got to go home on December 10th on an apnea monitor and feeding pump as well as multiple seisure meds. Sometime in the beginning of february Erica was hospitalised at a small town hospital by her pediatricion for failure to thrive after a couple of days and us finding out the hospital didnt have the capabilities to treat Erica we asked to be transferred back to OU medical center they had no beds so we were flown to Dallas Childrens Hospital. While in dallas Erica was diagnosed with severe epilepsy and acid reflux. Erica had a nissen placed and after she got out of surgery extabated her self meaning she pulled her own breathing tube out and hurt her airway and began desatting her oxygen and eventually had to have a trech placed. Erica was released from Dallas Childrens at the end of february and went home on a pulsox and a trech suction machine nebuliser and many medical supplies. Three seisure meds were added as well as a shot for her DI. Erica made it to June 1st without a hospital stay then was hospitalised for two weeks at OU medical center. Erica had a home health nurse the first one wasnt so good and was let go after a week the second was an excellent nurse and she is still considered part of the family.
